About Tea

The History of  Tea

The exact history of tea is unknown but the mythology surrounding its origin is varied, mystical, and highly intriguing.

From Chinese tales of an emperor who accidentally discovered tea when a leaf blew into boiling water to the Indian belief that tea was discovered by the founder of Buddhism, the mythology of tea runs throughout many cultures of the world.

And while not much is known about the true origin of tea, it is widely thought that it originated from the Far East as many as 4000 years ago.

A Portuguese missionary is given credit for having brought tea to Europe from China in the 17th Century, but the beverage did not establish a footing in the culture until Dutch merchants began bringing the fragrant leaves in bulk.

Tea began to gain popularity in Europe as the intrigue and novelty of the drink allowed its wealthy tasters to feel like they were experiencing the adventure of an overseas trip.

While tea has become a part of many societies around the globe, its use for medicinal purposes has still not become mainstream in most Western cultures today.

Here at MŪZ, our goal is for you to have access to the life-changing benefits that come from teas — from healing at a cellular level to creating an environment of mental clarity and calm.

"Teas, for me, are so much more than a drink. They supply energy, calm, and healing to a chaotic world."

- Raquel, MŪZ founder

The Benefits of Tea

Since its inception, tea has commonly been infused as a spiritual practice, and here at MŪZ we believe that spirituality and wellness go hand in hand — making tea the perfect beverage to help you heal, prevent, and thrive.

The benefits of tea are virtually limitless, but teas are often known for their soothing, calming, and therapeutic effects. And the benefits may go beyond a mental effect. Medical research shows that tea drinkers harbor less risk of developing cardiovascular disease, strokes, and inflammatory conditions.

You’ve likely heard it said that nature is the best medicine — and our own personal experiences with tea proves this truth.

At MŪZ, we believe that drinking tea is one of the most instrumental forms of self-care you can embark on.

Types of Tea

There are many types of teas and all have different properties that make them valuable and soothing. Here are some of the most popular ones:

Black Tea

Full and bold, black tea offers the most caffeine of any tea and is also highly oxidized.

White Tea

White tea is the least processed of all teas. The leaves are picked and dried naturally, resulting in a sweet, mild tea.

Oolong Tea

A nice combination of black and green tea, it offers some caffeination with less processing.

Green Tea

Mildly caffeinated and minimally processed, green tea is popular in cultures all around the globe. It is fresh and earthy and offers a wide array of health benefits.

Herbal Teas

While technically not a true tea, herbal teas are made from a wide array of plants, herbs, and spices. Herbal teas are not caffeinated and are attributed to a wide range of potential health benefits.
